Employment

The following are positions offered by the University Heights Police Department.  All sworn positions involve patrol work and include statutory powers of arrest as provided by the Code of Iowa.  All state requirements for age, physical fitness, aptitude, hearing, and vision must be met.  The City of University Heights and the University Heights Police Department are equal opportunity employers.

Full Time Positions - Police Officer

There are currently no full-time positions open, however applications and resumes are accepted on a continual basis.  If you are interested in obtaining a full-time position, please submit an application and/or resume by mail, email, or in person at the police department.  Please be advised that nearly every full time officer hired since the formation of the reserve unit had served as a member of the reserve unit, so individuals interested in becoming a full-time police officer are strongly encouraged to apply for a reserve officer position with the department.

Part Time Positions - Police Officer

There are currently no part-time positions open, however applications and resumes are accepted on a continual basis.  If you are interested in obtaining a part-time position, please submit an application and/or resume by mail, email, or in person at the police department.  The department currently staffs only one part-time position, which is currently filled, however should this position become available, it would most likely be with Iowa Law Enforcement Academy certification strongly preferred.

Volunteer Positions - Reserve Officer

The department is continually looking for candidates for the position of reserve officer.  This is an unpaid position that allows those with an interest in public service to serve in law enforcement.  Reserve officers are vested with the same rights, privileges, duties and obligations while on duty as regular officers.  Nearly every full-time police officer hired by the department since the formation of the reserve unit had previously served as a member of the reserve unit.  This is a highly rewarding, but unpaid position and there may be a minimum monthly hours requirement.  Those interested are strongly encouraged to apply.  Please stop by or contact the department via mail or email.
